Off to Vancouver!

Well, it's my first time out west to check out Vancouver. I will be there for a week, which should be enough time to see what all the fuss is about! Everyone seems to compare Toronto to it, and tell me 'i will love it.' I'm sure i will but i am in love with Toronto (though i am surely not a Toronto snob). Yet, on the other hand, i love that Vancouver is probably more vegan-friendly and has the most beautiful skyline and vibrant life!

Laural, who's from B.C. had posted about great things to do in Vancouver and a friend of mine asked her sister to tell me all the great things she loves about Vancouver. Since J will be somewhat preoccupied with research work, i'll have some time to myself. So, with that detailed list, and a great map from CAA, i'm off with my good pair of walking shoes (well, sandals, who am i kidding!)

Here are some things i hope to check out:
* Foundation restaurant - vegan friendly
* The Naam - vegetarian institution
* Sophia Books - to see if i can choose which Japanese craft book i want!
* Barefoot Contessa store
* Gravity Pope - since i'm a known shoe-lover, i was told i have to go here
* Granville Island
* Stanely Park
* Vancouver Art Gallery - since J studies First Nations history, this would be a great exhibit to check out.

See you in a week!

wow, have a fantastic time! looks like you've got a great list of things to find while you're there. don't forget to check out that (apparently) amazing sewing store...i think it's called "dress sew" or something like that. i'm pretty sure i've read about it on your friend laural's blog, so she should be able to give you the details. from what i've heard, it sounds like a must-see!

I second that, Dressew is a must! My other two favorite places are on Main Street (which has a million great places, so worth a walk from broadway to about 25th), are Front and Co a consignment place, and Regional Assembly of Text. The smoking lily shop is in that neighbourhood as well (near Barefoot Contessa too!) Have fun!

sounds like a wonderful time! The boy is contantly comparing BC to Toronto and keeps telling me how much I'd love there. I can't wait to hear a fellow committed Torontonian's opinion!

Vancouver is a beautiful city. I'm a native Torontonian and would happily relocate to Vancouver if I could find a job there.

The Naam is great! Even for a non-vegetarian like me, I still enjoyed the food.

UBC campus has a great First Nations Museum of Anthropology (www.moa.ubc.ca) chock full of First Nations artwork, both indoors and outdoors, such as totem poles, aboriginal crafts, and famed artists like Bill Reid's wood carvings.

There is also a serene Japanese Zen Garden on the campus too! (UBC's Nitobe Memorial Garden has earned a place among the top 10 Japanese gardens outside of Japan. It was ranked fourth by Japanese garden specialists in Europe, North America and Australia in a recent survey conducted by the Journal of Japanese Gardening.)

And you mustn't forget about Granville Island. Quaint craft shops, nice eateries near the harbour, beautiful panoramic view of the ocean and mountain backdrop. Breathtaking...

While there, I kept having to remind myself that I was still in Canada.

Hmmm...one week only to take all the sights might not be enough :)...Enjoy!

You can't go. I just got back and was dying to get together to take you out and get all caught up.

Have a fabulous time my friend. I cannot wait to hear all about it. I am certain you'll fall in love with BC.

Hey Vania,
I was on Tan's Space and clicked here. I was actually in Seattle this week and Vancouver Friday night for work. Not sure when you were leaving, but if it was Friday night at 10pm, then we may have been on the same plane back! Small world. Anyway, cheers, hope you liked Vancouver... the surroundings looked beautiful from a plane. If you ever get the chance, go to Seattle (and area). I think it's even nicer.

Ben.
