New Patterns for Me

I got these patterns recently at a neighbourhood yard sale. I only had $2 cash left so had to leave more behind. But check these out! I especially love the buttons that attach the PJs together for Li'l C!

Building a New Summer Wardrobe

I've been spending more and more time on the sewing machine these days, whipping up clothes and more for Lil C. Luckily, sewing projects don't require the commitment of time that knitting does. I have been collecting old and vintage patterns for a long time, both for me and for the kiddies, even before C was on the radar. Mostly cuz the images are so cute! I made the onesie (on the image above) for our nephew and was so excited to make these shorts. I think i'll be making them a bunch as the pattern can be adjusted pretty well.

I also love the cape in the pattern, so i hope i get around to making it for him sometime. Maybe for when he's 2. It'll make a fun addition for our role play/dress-up bin!

Fruit Cozy

I hate when i pack a fruit in my bag for lunch or a snack, only to find it bruised or scratched by the time i want to eat it. Big turn-off. It doesnt' help that an apple can wait in my bag for a few days, being tossed around, before i want it.

So, since i love how practical my banana holder is, i thought i could do something similar for my round fruits. I knit a cozy in the round, added some draw strings at each side, and voila - blemish-free fruit! The yarn fuzz adds a nice reminder for me to wash my fruit before eating it, too.

Fruit Cozy Pattern

Supplies
Scrap yarn, approx 50 gr to be safe
appropriate sized double-pointed needles ( i used size 4.25mm)
contrast colour for ties - approx 2 metres
scissors
yarn needle

Directions
1) Cast on 32 sts onto one needle and transfer them equally onto 3 of the needles.
2) Join the sts to form a circle and knit in k2 p2 rib pattern for 6 rows
3) Then work the next part of the piece in stockingnette st for approx 10-16 rows, depending on how big you want the cozy to be
4) Return back to rib pattern for final 6 rows
5) Bind off and weave in loose ends
6) Take contrast colour and weave in to form a drawstring on each side. This helps the fruit stay inside and allows for easy access. Done!

Can't Wait till Spring...

...And not just because it's expected to be -35 tonight, nor because we got yet more snow today, well maybe for those reasons, but also so that i can wear my new cape - it's done!
I have just a bit more 'editing' to do for it, but i'll wait until i actually need to wear it and see how it goes. In preparation for this project, I bought this lovely vintage pattern that went perfectly with my barkcloth, i used some left over satin for the lining, and i feel that this is one decadent cape. I didn't buy enough fabric, and was just a smidge off, so instead of trying to play with the belt, i just reused a belt from a coat i no longer wear. I think it goes well enough.

The other decision to make is to do with the buttons. Instead of making actual button holes, i used snap-ons. I still need to perfect my hole-making technique, so i thought this was a safe bet. I bought these lovely floral pink buttons and might use them for the cape, just for aesthetics. This will be decided once i start wearing it. But for now, here it is!
